Revealed! Secrets of A Samurai Box at the Peabody!

The single clue to its origin is the samurai crest painted in gold on the red leather cover. The encircled four-diamond crest very likely represents the Matsumae clan, who occupied the southern end of the island of Hokkaido from the late 1500s until the 1860s.
On November 7, you are invited to watch as the mysterious contents are revealed by experts. Witness the discovery process firsthand as the artifacts are examined for physical clues about their age, origin and utility. What will the clues tell us about their owners? What was their status or profession? Afterwards, see the artifacts up close and speak with the experts.
1:00 pm: Docents will be available in the main exhibition gallery to talk with visitors about the artifacts displayed in Samurai and the Culture of Japan’s Great Peace.
2:00 pm: The “unveiling” will be held in the Peabody Museum's Great Hall.
This program is free with museum admission, but SPACE IS LIMITED.
