Glastonbury Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

The Veterans Service Commission (VSC) will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade with a ceremony to follow on Monday, May 27, 2024. This year’s Memorial Day Parade will step off promptly at 09:00 AM. Start of the parade will be at Main Street and Welles Street. The parade will March south down Main Street and proceed past the reviewing stand on Hubbard Street to end at the monuments on the Green. After the parade is complete, the VSC will hold a ceremony to honor the Veterans from Glastonbury who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. The Glastonbury Fire Department Color Guard is in charge of advancing and retiring the Colors for the ceremony. There will be a guest speaker. Additionally, the names of the veterans through all the wars who gave the ultimate sacrifice will be read with the ringing of a bell after each name. Taps with an echo will follow. The VSC Honor Guard will conclude the ceremony with a rifle salute. Following the ceremony, the Glastonbury Elks in South Glastonbury will hold an open house for anyone who would like to attend.

Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather, the VSC will hold an assembly at the GHS gym. We will strive to hold the parade except for severe weather and the decision will be made before 08:45 AM.
